EUDAIMONIC
[yoo-di-mon-ik] adjective
Pertaining or conducive to happiness.
The word eudaimonic refers to the type of happiness or well-being that stems from meaning and self-realization. It’s the feeling of deep contentment you get after volunteering at STAR Foundation or The Humane Society, as opposed to the quick hit of pleasure you get from eating chocolate cake (which I LOVE to do!) A dose of eudaimonic happiness lasts longer and tends to perpetuate itself.
We’ve all heard the term "words to live by” and there is no shortage of inspirational life quotes. As we begin a new year with new resolutions, here are some good ones to help you get started on 2017:
“Just know, when you truly want success, you’ll never give up on it. No matter how bad the situation may get”
“I don’t regret the things I’ve done, I regret the things I didn’t do when I had the chance.”
“Forget all the reasons it won’t work and believe the one reason that it will.”
“Good things come to those who wait. Greater things come to those who get off their duff and do anything to make it happen.”
“Love what you have. Need what you want. Accept what you receive. Give what you can. Always remember, what goes around, comes around.”
“The biggest failure you can have in life is making the mistake of never trying at all.”
“Life has two rules: #1 Never quit. #2 Always remember rule #1.”
The above quotes have a common theme for me personally. This year marks the beginning of our 15th year in existence at Elegant Island Living. Each quote above has at one point or another inspired the EIL team to “work a little harder, stay up a little later, go a little farther” in our efforts to bring you, the reader, the very BEST local lifestyle publication. Thank you for following us for the past fourteen years. I was blessed to have grown up here and am blessed to have been able to come back and live and work in such an amazing place, surrounded by wonderful friends and family. Truly I am living an eudaimonic Elegant Island life. Here’s to a very happy 2017 for us all!
