Well, it’s that time of year again when we go searching for that “perfect” gift for our friends and
family members. And where there are gifts, there is regifting! Whether you’re considering regifting for the first time or you’re a serial regifter, the key to regifting is not getting caught! Successful regifters use common sense: if you are going to regift, be sure you know who gave you the item, so you don’t return it to the original giver. Unless, of course, it’s payback time.
While we always say it’s the thought that counts, there are some Christmas gifts you should probably never give. Things like:
The South Beach Diet Cookbook
Facial Hair Removal Kit for Ladies
Concert tickets to the ABBA reunion tour
50% off coupon for your first skydiving trip
Engraved “Let’s Cook” Breaking Bad cutting board
Fake $100,000 winning scratch-off lottery ticket
Anything “As Seen on TV”
Christmas-themed sweater
Movie tickets to a movie no one wants to see
And the #1 gift you should probably never give: the thing she just told you NOT to buy.
The top 10 most regifted gifts are booze, gift cards, fruitcake, candles, cookbooks, jewelry, picture frames, gift baskets, housewares, and clothing. Of course, most people want to give gifts that will be treasured by the recipient. According to regiftable.com (yes, there is actually a refitting site), the one gift that NEVER gets regifted is: CASH!
Three years ago, I got my buddy, Andy, Vegas Player cologne as a gag gift. He kept the cologne in the box for a full year and was able to
successfully give it back to me the next Christmas!
The only way I could FINALLY get rid of the cologne was to stick the 6 oz. bottle into my carry on bag and “pretend” to be upset when the TSA guy confiscated it during the bag check process. I wonder if this Christmas some
guy living in Schenectady is going to get a bottle of Vegas Player.
We here at EIL wish you and your family a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS and a HAPPY NEW YEAR!
