Low Country Walk
Low Country Walk Antiques (LCW) is situated in a cozy little nook just behind Redfern Village. Founded by Pat Laughlin, this little gem is a St. Simons Island staple. Pat tentatively accepted Keith and Gay Fortson as new dealers into the store in 1986, at first allowing them to place only a few pieces in the store. As they learned the ropes, built up their inventory, and their sales, Pat, who served as a mentor to the young antique dealers, gradually increased their space. Over 25 years later, the Fortsons, their two daughters, Elizabeth and Chandler, and son-in-law, Adam Sheehan, are keeping Pat’s legacy alive by filling the store with treasures from around the world.
Gay and Keith Fortson started their antique business, McIntosh Cottage Antiques, in 1985. Once a year, for the last 18 years, the family has trudged through mucky fields in England and spent hours in warehouses poring over inventory to select unique and timeless pieces to share. In addition to LCW, the Fortson’s antiques can also be found in Madison Markets in Madison, GA. The McIntosh Cottage Antiques team is working harder than ever to bring you the latest trends in antiques. Expect to see more new treasures in the store this summer following their May trip to England.
Stephen Geevers, a collector for over thirty years, joined Low Country Walk in 1995. Limehouse Plantation focuses on pottery and vineyard items from dealers in France, paintings from Belgium and Holland, olive oil jars and ironwork from Europe, and American furniture and art. Living in Savannah, Stephen buys from local estates and established dealers in the US and Europe.
With everything from mahogany chests to farm tables, French confit jars to Pyrenees pottery and Flemish artwork, the collection at Low Country Walk is show stopping. The recently revamped, rearranged store has had some customers concerned, but not to worry; Low Country Walk is here to stay. The dealers at Low Country Walk have a renewed focus on bringing beautiful, one-of-a-kind antique and vintage pieces into the homes of their customers and that means shaking things up a little bit. Stop in and see their new layout!
Low Country Walk is located at 107 Low Country Lane (behind Bubba Garcia’s). Summer hours are 10am-5pm, Monday through Saturday. Phone: 912.638.1216. Like them on Facebook too!
