Great American Cleanup
Keep Brunswick-Golden Isles Beautiful (KBGIB) welcomes spring by kicking off the 16th annual Great American Cleanup - the country’s largest community improvement program engaging more than 4 million volunteers in over 20,000 communities nationwide. A Keep America Beautiful national effort bringing people together to build and sustain vibrant communities, locally the event is celebrated with multiple community betterment opportunities.
"March, April and May are the Great American Cleanup target months," said Lea King-Badyna, KBGIB Executive Director. "Locally during these months, many different events and efforts take place that welcome volunteer effort of all ages and abilities."
Participating in a marsh cleanup, helping at Adopt-A-Highway roadway cleanups, enjoying a student recycled trash art exhibit and using the KBGIB offsite recycling trailer are just a few ways that Glynn County citizens can participate in this year’s effort. A local highlight is KBGIB’s annual Electronics Recycling and Paper Shred event held in May at the Glynn Place Mall. This year the event is expanding and will also partner with the 2014 GreenScene EcoFair to be held on the same day inside of the mall.
"Volunteers are the backbone of our organization," added King-Badyna. "Community members are invited to join in our planned activities or even come up with their own. By contacting the KBGIB offices, we can offer ideas, assistance, supplies and also track local efforts which is important."
"Tree planting, waterway cleanups, green space beautification, and beach sweeps are just a few more participation ideas that will strengthen our community and inspire generations of environmental stewards," added KBGIB Board chairperson Kelly Bennett. "It is great for our community to join others from across the country to be part of this huge national effort."
