The St. Simons Land Trust has announced that David Pope, a lawyer with a 38-year career in environmental law and the current director of the Georgia and Alabama offices of the Southern Environmental Law Center (SELC), will be its next executive director. He will assume his new position on Oct. 1, succeeding Ben Slade. A longtime Atlanta resident, Pope received his Bachelor of Arts from The University of Florida and his Juris Doctor from The University of North Carolina. “After many years of conservation work, I am excited about the opportunity to join the St. Simons Land Trust,” Pope said. “I am truly grateful to have been chosen as its new executive director. It will be a challenging and energizing new adventure for me, but I am inspired by the organization’s mission, its accomplishments, and most of all, its people – the staff, the board, the membership, and the many other supporters. I can’t wait to get started!” sslt.org
