Since its opening, Seaside Veterinary Hospital on St. Simons Island has been striving to help your pet live its best life through comprehensive veterinary care services. From maintaining your pet’s wellness and taking preventative measures to help them live longer lives to emergency treatment and surgical care through grooming and boarding services, Seaside offers it all. Since the days of curbside and COVID, Seaside has been dedicated to improving the client experience so that it surpasses pre-COVID practices, and to meeting the needs of the community.
They recently added Dr. Bill Johnson, an experienced veterinarian who lives here on the island, to their team. Dr. Johnson received his doctorate in veterinary medicine from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2003 and operated his own private practice in Illinois and Georgia. Dr. Johnson strives to integrate preventative medicine to maintain optimal health with a goal to maintain long-term healthy, happy bonds between people and their pets. He has special interests in internal medicine, soft tissue surgery, dermatology, gastrointestinal disease, and geriatric care. Dr. Johnson has a strong following already!
They have also partnered with Dr. Steven Neihaus, a board-certified surgeon who previously worked for Capital Veterinary Specialists in Jacksonville, FL, in order to offer his expertise and services in orthopedic, oncology, soft tissue and other wound treatment on a limited basis. Dr. Alan Weldon comes to Seaside about once a month to perform ultrasound diagnostics. Dr. Weldon’s primary interests are internal medicine, neurologic disease, gastrointestinal disease, cardiology and diagnostic imaging. He has been published in various veterinary journals and is a courtesy professor in the University of Florida’s Practice Based Equine Clerkship program. The Seaside team knows that St. Simons Island residents want the best care for their pets as well as the convenience of staying close to home and these types of relationships with other doctors provides that.
The Seaside team states that they will continue to hire talented doctors to meet the needs of the community. They also are planning a renovation that will expand their lobby and add several additional exam rooms. More rooms and more doctors mean the ability to accommodate more pets who need care and shorter wait times for appointments.
Seaside also offers pet owners the ability to schedule technician appointments with their own dedicated team for cold laser therapy sessions. Cold laser therapy is an effective drug-free and non-invasive method to treat pain and inflammation from joint issues like arthritis, tendon and ligament injuries, and help surgical wounds and other injuries heal faster. Their team has gone through a certification program for this that many other hospitals don't require. Another step Seaside took in 2022 to streamline the system for clients was implementing Pet Health ID Cards. The cards include your pet's shot record, microchip number, and a photo of your pet (if you choose to submit one), so that you can have the information in your wallet everywhere you go. This is especially helpful for frequent travelers and in situations like hurricane evacuation!
Itchy pets and parasites are some of the most common problems pet owners deal with. Just like humans, pets can be sensitive to irritants and suffer allergies. The Seaside team can diagnose and offer treatment for skin-related problems, so they don’t develop into serious health concerns. Fleas and ticks are not only uncomfortable for your pet, if untreated, they can also cause severe illness. These pests can also be a real hassle if they move into your home. Seaside offers several safe options for year-round treatment and prevention of these and other parasites, including heartworm. Their team is happy to consult with you to see what the best option is for your pet and your lifestyle.
Healthy, happy pets and happy owners are the best kind of recommendation. One recent testimonial from a family whose French bulldogs have been treated by Seaside since they moved here from Atlanta three years ago, says: “The staff is always compassionate, knowledgeable, and accommodating. Thank you, Dr. Lieske, Dr. Taylor, Dr. Blount, Dr. Raver, Amanda, all the Vet Technicians and office staff, who treat our pets as if they were their own, always greeting us with a smile!”
