Come a little closer… We want to share something new and exciting happening after the sun goes down. Born out of a passion for their family and community, JKris After Dark is Corey and Kristin Hoffman’s way of giving some fun and love back to the St. Simons Island community. They wanted to do something special for the groups and individuals on the island who have wrapped their arms around Corey and Kristin’s family many times and who they also consider to be family.
Corey and Kristin have a beautiful story as best friends of 34 years that they will share with a smile on their faces to anyone who will listen. They moved to the island 20 years ago as two young adults with their two beautiful children, daughter Peyton, and son Wyatt. They say that watching the kids grow up and run around the island has been a fun journey. Now that the children are grown, the entire family is immersed in the hair industry, with their children following in their mom’s footsteps.
Kristin says, “We know we are blessed. Corey encouraged me to open JKris 15 years ago. He believes the salon is the center point of our lives. Truth, honesty, and perseverance based on the foundation of family are the values he has laid out before us and watched as we have achieved our goals.”
Kristin is a Master Cosmetologist, American Board Certified Haircolorist, Redken-color, design, blonding specialist, extension certified. She has achieved these degrees throughout the years spent in her career so she can give back to the salon’s guests by being well educated to design the perfect cut and color. She also shares her passion for giving back to the industry by apprenticing new stylists and teaching at the local technical schools. Wyatt is a Master Barber at JKris with plans to marry his future wife Jayda, who is a Master Cosmetologist at the salon. Peyton is currently enrolled in school and will be a Master Cosmetologist by summer.
“When guests come into the salon, we often hear, ‘This place feels so comfortable and happy!’ That’s because we all love what we do,” Kristin explains. “Our family believes in work hard, play hard. You will often see the whole family hanging around local businesses after work. When you see us, we are laughing, playing, and having fun.” That’s what spurred the idea for JKris After Dark parties.
“We want JKris After Dark to be fun gatherings that bring people together to laugh and play with us.” Kristin adds, “We don’t get enough reasons to dress in our sexiest clothes and show off our hair, so we thought we’d create some!” Join the JKris family at Ember’s MAS Lounge on November 16 for the kickoff of JKris After Dark. Drinks will be flowing, the DJ will have the music thumping, and there will be lots of giveaways. This party will be a fundraiser for the three St. Simons Island fire stations. The goal is to restock their kitchens with pots, pans, knives, and other kitchen essentials. “These firemen and women work so hard and sacrifice their family time to be on call at the stations throughout the year, and especially during the holiday season,” says Kristin. “We want them to have the best kitchen equipment to help them continue to properly nourish their bodies so they can be our lifesavers.”
JKris After Dark will continue to look for different ideas to give back to those who have supported the salon and our community through the years. After the kickoff in November, Kristin says they plan to have these get-togethers every other month, so if you have ideas about providing help in the community, please let them know. The message from the entire JKris family is simple: “We love you, SSI, and can’t wait to see you at MAS on November 16!”
