After years of caring for her mentally-ill, world-renowned mathematician father, Catherine faces the first few days of a world without him -- days that include her twenty-fifth birthday, the arrival of her estranged and domineering sister, and the constant visits of one of her father's former students, who has volunteered to go through the 103 notebooks her father kept during his last few years in hopes of discovering a mathematical breakthrough amongst the scribbles of a sick man.
