The Coastal Symphony of Georgia's December concert features familiar tunes from distinguished classical music composers.
SUPPE: Poet and Peasant Overture
Austrian composer and conductor Franz von Suppé is noted for his four dozen operettas, but his Poet and Peasant Overture is also well known having been used in movie soundtracks and cartoons.
BRAHMS: Hungarian Dance No. 6
While Johannes Brahms is known for his large, complex musical structures, some of his most widely known compositions were his Hungarian Dances. Hungarian Dance No. 6 was originally arranged for piano but later orchestrated.
TCHAIKOVSKY: Nutcracker Suite Excerpts
Christmas is not complete without Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite. Tchaikovsky selected numbers from his ballet The Nutcracker to form the Nutcracker Suite which he intended for concert performances.
BIZET-BORNE: Carmen Fantasy
The first half of the program closes with Francois Borne’s Carmen Fantasy, a fast paced piece based on themes from Bizet’s famous opera Carmen.

The second half of the program features delightfully entertaining, familiar music which will leave you feeling warm, happy and ready to begin the festive season.
Guest artist, flutist Mindy Heinsohn, is an active soloist, chamber musician and orchestral player who has performed in Europe, Central America, the United States and Canada. She made her Carnegie Hall debut in 2010 and has worked with many notable conductors, artists and teachers. Ms. Heinsohn holds a Master of Music from the prestigious Yale School of Music and a Bachelor’s degree from Peabody Conservatory. She is a member of the Mid-Atlantic Symphony Orchestra and is on the faculty at Washington College in Chestertown, Maryland. She also teaches at the annual Flute Fever Summer Flute Institute in Harwood, Maryland and presents master classes at La Escuela Municipal de Música in Guatemala.
