Golden Isles Arts & Humanities is pleased to present the return of Peach State Opera with Giuseppe Verdi’s La Traviata, one of the most popular operas of all time, on Sunday, January 26, 2025 at 3 pm at the Historic Ritz Theatre in downtown Brunswick. 

Verdi’s tragic opera, La Traviata, follows the story of Violetta (a high-class courtesan in 19th-century Paris) and her passionate love affair with Alfredo (a young nobleman). Despite their developing romance, the relationship is soon put under pressure as societal expectations, misunderstandings and illness threaten to tear them apart – ultimately leading to a heart-breaking conclusion. La Traviata contains some of Verdi’s most beloved tunes, including Violetta’s first-act hymn to freedom, “Sempre libera,” as well as her tragic farewell to life in the last act, “Addio, del passato bei sogni,” and the most irresistible of all of Verdi’s drinking songs, “Libiamo ne’ lieti calici.”  

Peach State Opera, a touring company that brings opera to communities across Georgia and beyond was founded in 2009. The organization’s guiding principle is that all audiences deserve access to opera and that the opera world needs a place where emerging artists can express themselves. All their performances are condensed family-friendly versions and are performed in English. Golden Isles Arts & Humanities has been presenting Peach State Opera to our community for over 10 years and is thrilled to have them returning once again.

Advance tickets for Nonmembers are $20 for adults and $15 for seniors (age 65 and up). Price increases $5 if tickets are purchased the day of the show. The cost for students (with ID) is always $5 each.
