The Island Players present Steel Magnolias at the St. Simons Casino Theatre January 9-12, and 16-19. Get better acquainted with the ladies of Chinquapin, Louisiana, in this classic slice of life in the South which is in turns hilarious and heartbreaking. Outspoken, wise-cracking salon owner Truvy, accompanied by her eager new assistant, Annelle, dispenses shampoo and free advice at her salon, where all the ladies who are “anybody” have their hair done. Her clientele includes rich curmudgeon Ouiser; Miss Clairee, the eccentric millionaire, and M’Lynn, the local social leader whose daughter, Shelby, is about to marry a “good ole boy.” This group of strong-willed women share laughter, tears, and life’s ups and downs in the salon and demonstrate the strength of friendship and the power of community.
