Pull out those hat boxes! It’s time to sport your spectators and seersucker suits. Frederica Academy’s 14th Annual Derby Day signature fundraiser will take place at Sea Island’s Retreat Clubhouse and its gorgeous grounds on Saturday, May 2. Gates will open at 5:00 p.m. for the fun and festive afternoon of spectacular horse-race and hat viewing, exciting live and silent auctions, great Southern fare and fellowship. The running of the 141st Kentucky Derby will be simulcast on large screen televisions inside and outside at 6:15 p.m. so everyone can cheer on their favorite horse and rider in “The Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports.”
Following the race, the silver tongued and always entertaining Mason Waters works the mike as the emcee for the raffle drawing and live auction of unique travel packages and adventures and other highly coveted prizes. At 7:15 p.m. the event will conclude with a post-race band party with funky and fabulous local band, Ambrosius.
Even Co-Chairs Dana and Patrick Parker and Elizabeth and Daniel Veal stress the importance of Derby Day to Frederica Academy. Proceeds from this annual event are used to further Frederica Academy’s mission of enriching each student’s mind, body and spirit. Because Derby Day revenue is a major line item in the school’s operating budget, the event touches every aspect of student life and plays a critical role in helping the school meet its financial obligations. Derby Day proceeds are generated from sponsorships, raffle tickets, events tickets and donated items for the silent and live auctions. Over the past three years, Derby Day net proceeds exceeded, on average, more than $170,000. Since its inception, Derby Day has generated approximately $1.5 million in net revenue for the school.
Sponsorship opportunities are available for $500-$5,000. Event tickets are $150 and may be purchased online at fredericaacademy.org. See you at the starting gate!
