Legally Blonde GA Players
Glynn Academy’s upcoming production of Legally Blonde is sure to be a hit! This rollicking blockbuster will have you tapping your Prada shoes to the beat. Elle Woods, played by Olivia Dixon, follows the love of her life, Warner, played by Andrew Hicks, to Harvard Law School. She soon realizes that this is quite the change from Fashion Merchandising at UCLA. Law school is serious, and that is exactly what she needs to be to win back the heart of Warner. The cast is filled with colorful characters that will guide Elle down the right path. Her sorority sisters, Margo, Serena, and Pilar, played by Mary Kate Robertson, Marla Atkinson, and Sophie Gordon, attempt to be her voice of reason in this new world. Paulette the manicurist, played by Ashley Williams, befriends the young blonde law student and teaches her life lessons like only a fellow blonde can. Elle’s welcome to Harvard hardly goes as planned. Vivienne, played by Anna Clark, has stolen Warner and proceeds to make Elle’s transition a difficult one. Enid Hoopes, played by Delaney Wiggins, and Emmett Forrest, played by Kyle Hildebrand, round out this eccentric group. Will Elle survive law school? Will she win back the love of her life? Will she become the serious law student that Warner wants? Or, will she fail like everyone expects?
“Legally Blonde has been a great learning experience. This complex musical has something in it for everyone to enjoy. Our directors, Shirley Spencer and Josh Sinyard, are working hard to make sure we keep up our reputation as an award winning program,” says senior Anna Clark, the President and a 4 year returning member of the Glynn Academy Players.
The GA Players were founded by Shirley Spencer in 1988 and she has been their director ever since. Shirley is a member of the Georgia Thespian Hall of Fame, the Roy Horne Festival Chair of the Secondary School Division of the Georgia Theatre Conference, and currently teaches Drama Fundamentals, Drama I-IV, Technical Theatre, Competition Theatre Arts, and Musical Theatre at Glynn Academy. With Shirley at the helm, the GA Players productions and actors have won numerous awards, competing not only at regional levels, but at state as well. Their accolades are quite impressive. Shirley will be retiring from GA at the end of this year and says it’s time to let someone new take the mantle. Maybe that means we will have the opportunity to see her on the stage in productions rather than behind the scenes.
The GA Players will be performing Legally Blonde the Musical for the 3-AAAAA Regional One Act Competition against nine other schools, including Brunswick High School, on October 25th. Community performances will take place on October 15th and 17-19th at 7:30 p.m., 3:00 p.m. for matinee performances, at the Glynn Academy Memorial Auditorium. Tickets are $10. Enjoy seeing Elle’s antics on stage in this witty and lively production and show your support for the award-winning GA Players in regional competition, after all, Shirley’s final year should be a curtain call to remember.
