Kids laughing and running on the playground, playing games with friends and building with Legos, reading and drawing; you see smiles everywhere when you walk into the St. Simons Island location of the Boys & Girls Club of Southeast Georgia. The staff greets everyone warmly, and surprisingly, and rather comfortingly, knows the names of most everyone coming through the door. This is definitely “a positive place.”
Now that the school year is beginning again, it is time to think about after-school programs. Boys & Girls Club of Southeast Georgia has a proven reputation as a trusted organization in the community, and its vision statement is to deliver “accessible, progressive, fun programs and services that energize, educate and empower boys and girls to become contributing members of their family, their Club, and their community.”

Shawn Newton, Retired USMC and a former Club member can’t stress the value of the Boys & Girls Club enough. “I’m very much thankful for all that the Boys and Girls Club is and what it stands for. I joined the Boys & Girls Club in Brunswick, when I was nine years old and spent a lot of time there the next six years. The Club was vital in my life, because it allowed me to get away from an abusive home. It was my getaway from fear, agony, disappointment, and depression and enabled me to transform and mature into the man I am today. I went on to join the US Marine Corps, where I had completed five years of Honorable service. Currently I work for the Department of Social Services and I am working with community leaders to open a Boys and Girls Club in Lincolnton, NC. I know from my personal experience what The Club means to children and teens. I have such fond memories of my days at the Club and thank everyone for supporting the Boys & Girls Club of Southeast Georgia, Inc.”
